Brain Science received 100 million dollars for its reboot

Brown Institute of Brain Science of BIBS, in short, will receive 100 million dollars as a gift from Robert and Nancy Carney foundation.

It is one of the biggest donations ever received by BIBS.  Institute wants to rename itself in Robert J and Nancy D Carney Institute for Brain Science. This way, they want to honor foundation.

According to the president Christina Paxson, a gift from Carney will change capabilities of University in the study of the brain.

The University wants to expand its opportunities in research of brain and its abilities.

Paxson confirmed that research of brain always had been the main object of Brown’s studies. Christopher Moore, an associate director of BIBS has agreed that establishment always had a positive impact on the development of brain science in the USA and internationally. And now Moore believes that this donation will help Institute to become leading educational establishment across the world.

Paxson said that the Institute set new targets with this money. They are working on Alzheimer’s cure, and a donation will support scientists.

Their main goal is still to understand better work of our brain.

Moore does not believe that this money will be able to support completely new research with positive results and ready-made cure. Meanwhile, he hopes that money will help scientists to go further in their research.

Institute still is interested in research on different brain disorders and ways of treatment.

Diane Lipscombe, the head of Institute said that this area is still poorly researched. Scientists don’t know why some neurons die and other not. They work to understand the processes of the brain and how damages can be cured.

It’s not the first donations of Carneys to the Institute. During the last years, Carneys and other philanthropists donated almost 50 million dollars to BIBS.
